Hello Reader,
It’s been a while.
I am just finishing up my first year in college. It feels both surreal and underwhelming to say that. In one sense, it has flown by and then in another sense I have no way of celebrating so it doesn’t feel real.
I thought I should share a few more of my many, many nuggets of wisdom.
Firstly, in first year, it is normal to receive criticism. At first, it was hard to receive criticism and no longer get the highest in the class but soon, I realised it benefits me more in the long run.
Recently, I have gotten critiques on my essays however, instead of dwelling on it I decided to become productive.
Here are the steps I take to learn from critiques:
1. Read the comments from the lecturer or tutor. 2. Highlight the main points. 3. Write a list of main points. 4. Refer to the list when writing the next essay so the mistakes aren’t repeated.
I also have some tips about living away from home for the first time:
1. Write a list on your phone of all your shopping and use the same one every week. This will help with saving money and not forget any essential items!
2. Make food at home!! It saves you time (to do more assignments of course) and money! Not to mention, it’s better than the mountains of plain pasta you will probably consume!
3. Budget. A budget is very useful for planning money so you won’t overspend. This will be very helpful during the start of the semesters when you need lots of books and stationary but you won’t have to survive on beans on toast!
What are some college questions you have? Do you have any tips for first years?
I believe I have worked hard in first year and I hope my results reflect that effort!
Anyway, that is my basic survival guide to first year. This year has been amazing and I have grown and developed in so many different ways that I did not expect! I hope you are enjoying my blog and choose to continue following my college life!
Until next time,
Aishlin xx
